Institute of Advanced Studies

An advisory board has been convened to guide the progress of the Institute of Advanced Studies.

The board also gives independent advice to the University on opportunities for activities, partnerships and collaborations.

It comprises:

• Professor Doug McEachern, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), 
• Professor Robyn Owens, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training), Dean, Postgraduate Research School
• Professor Karen Simmer, Chair, Academic Board and Council
• Raoul Oehmen, 2009 President, Postgraduate Students' Association

Two members of UWA academic staff, elected from Academic Board:

• Professor Lyn Beazley, Zoology
• Professor Grady Venville, Graduate School of Education

Four external members, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor:

• Professor Nadia Rosenthal, Head of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Monterotondo (Rome) Italy
• Dr Patricia Kailis AM OBE,  Governing Director, MG Kailis Group of Companies (marine industries); Emeritus consultant in neurology, Royal Perth Hospital; first woman member of the World Economic Forum
• Dr Penny Flett MBBS, DGM, FRACMA, AFCHSE, FAIM,  Chief Executive Officer of Brightwater Care Group (Inc)
• Mr Alan Dodge, Former Director, Art Gallery of Western Australia
