Institute of Advanced Studies

An advisory board has been convened to guide the progress of the Institute of Advanced Studies.

The board also gives independent advice to the University on opportunities for activities, partnerships and collaborations.

It comprises:

• Professor Robyn Owens, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research)
• Winthrop Professor John Cordery, Chair, Academic Board and Council
• Winthop Professor Alan Dench, Dean of Graduate Research School
• Gemma Bothe, President, Postgraduate Students’ Association

Two members of UWA academic staff, elected from Academic Board:

• Winthrop Professor Carlos Duarte, Director UWA Oceans Institute
• Winthrop Professor Grady Venville, Graduate School of Education  

Four external members, nominated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research):

• Ms Kate Cherry, Artistic Director, Black Swan State Theatre Company
• Mr Alec Coles, CEO, The Western Australian Museum
• Professor Dame Kay E Davies,  MRC Functional Genomics Unit, Department of Physiology and Genetics, University of Oxford
• Dr Erica Smyth MSc, FAICD, Non-Executive Chairman, Toro Energy Ltd
