For the past year, the Institute of Advanced Studies has been meeting with key people with the idea of providing a forum to exchange ideas, dialogue and debate in examining some of the key factors concerning health and the quality of life in Western Australia.

The aim is to produce a discussion paper that can be used within existing systems to advance health practice.

After much review and discussion IAS is pleased to announce a very innovative program that we hope you will be part of.

We are offering a very different kind of symposium. Rather than a series of professional papers, the symposium will look at six areas of health policy:

1) Health policy priorities, responsibilities and leadership
2) Health economics
3) Health promotion, education and engagement
4) Indigenous health
5) Media influence on health behaviour and policies
6) Lay health advocacy.

Each session will include two - three statements of five minutes each from invited speakers to provoke a discussion period of 45 minutes that will include development of action items to be used in writing of a position paper that can be used by government, health providers and the community in improving the quality of life for the people of Western Australia. Associated papers will be provided via our website to enrolled participants to allow pre-reading prior to the symposium.

The symposium will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, dialogue and debate in examining some of the key issues facing health today.
