The focus of this two-day multi-disciplinary symposium was unstructured outdoor play.
A number of international and national speakers across a wide-range of disciplines presented.
Issues to be explored were:
- Loss of children’s contact with nature
- Safety issues and risk
- Childsplay regarding fitness, obesity and ill-health
- Environmental generational amnesia
- Structured and unstructured play-spaces
- Schools and unstructured play
The symposium was co-sponsored by IAS and ARACY (Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth) ARC/NHMRC Research Network.
There was also a public lecture entitled Growing up in a risk averse society delivered by Tim Gill.
