Professor Ross Gibson is an author, filmmaker, curator and producer.

Currently the Professor of Contemporary Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, Gibson’s career brings together university teaching, visual and digital arts practice, writing, and a lot more.

His most recent artwork is the novel The Summer Exercises  in which Gibson reconstructs and reveals a history of noir in post-war Sydney by visually enriching the story with more than 150 crime-scene photographs obtained through the Historic Houses Trust of NSW.

The Summer Exercises received a glowing review by Delia Falconer in The Australian. She sums up the book ‘as a primal invocation of a bruised city it is engaging, strangely moving and exciting”.

Professor Ross Gibson will deliver a public lecture entitled, The Summer Exercises: making a town from photographs, at UWA’s Webb Lecture Theatre, on 28 May 2009 at 6pm. All welcome.
